Drain Placement

This procedure involves inserting a slender, hollow tube called a catheter into the affected organ by creating a small passage in the skin using a needle and wire, guided by ultrasound and local anesthesia. The catheter is then connected to a collection bag.


Why (Indications)?

To through- out the dirty fluid from the body like liver abscesses, pancreatitis collection, etc.

What you are to do before the procedure (Preparation)?

  • Coagulation profiles like PT/INR and platelet count are mandatory before the procedure.
  • HBsAg & HIV is also essential before the procedure. It is for you as well as doctor/staff safety.
  • If you are on a blood thinner like Aspirin etc then kindly inform us during the appointment or visit to the clinic.
  • One accompanying person.
  • Need to sign a consent form for the procedure.

Approx. Stay in the hospital?

We have a very fast and competent working team which provides you with a comfortable atmosphere and eases your nerves. The usual time of stay is around one-hour post-procedure. Liver abscesses and renal abscesses require continuous monitoring for which we provide day care (4-8 hrs.) facility.

You can resume your work after 4 hours if existing disease allows.


Complications

These are very safe procedures with minor (<2%) complications done under local anesthesia. You may have mild pain for which you may require oral tablets or injections.
